Area Info | bio: | I have been studying, creating, and teaching Art for most of my life! I love exploring new media and techniques. For me, Art is the act of creation and creative problem solving; it is a different way to look at the world. | |||||||
About Studio Hop | |||||||||
I grew up west of New London and graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. I majored in Studio Art/K-12 Art Education, with a concentration in drawing and watercolor. For 20 years I have taught Art to students of all ages in the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school district. I have always been drawn to realism, but I try to capture my interpretation of the moment with intense color and intriguing textures. I derive most of my inspiration from the beauty and design of nature. I am fortunate to live next to the Mill Pond in New London, where the water lilies, pottery, flowers in my garden, and the mirror-like reflections of the pond itself often inspire my work. In my most recent work, I take digital photographs of my subject, which are altered with Adobe Photoshop. Using these images as references, I draw the subject on the canvas and then apply oil paint with ink rollers and palette knives. This gives a surface texture that is richer than paint applied with only a brush. I try to layer the colors to bring out the depth of color and form of my subjects. I strive to share my vision of reality. |
